And Now For Sports…
Sleepy Hollow’s boys’ varsity soccer team lost in the second round of the sectional playoffs on Friday, October 24th, against number three seed Hendrik Hudson High School. It was an away game played in ideal conditions and the final score was 2-1. This was a great performance by the boys. Sleepy played one of its best all-round games of the season. Both teams played tough and aggressive throughout the game. In the first half Sleepy scored first when senior captain Dann Quezada took a shot off a rebound and buried it in the net. Both teams had other scoring chances throughout the half but could not finish them off. In the second half Hen Hud scored its first goal off a corner kick. It was a perfectly executed header that just eluded senior goalkeeper Jose Deleg. Hen Hud then scored their second goal after one of Sleepy’s fullbacks missed a clearance out of the 18 yard box. Sleepy continued to push forward but couldn’t tie it up. Players who stood out for Sleepy include: Quezada, senior captains Daniel Yawman and Guillermo Maxi, and senior fullbacks Brendan Murphy and Blas Ortiz. Senior goalkeeper Jack Corcoran had another great game with 9 saves. Hollow finished up with a 6-9-3 record. We had a great season and the school district should be proud of the way the boys represented the school district on the field. Both the boys and the coaching staff can’t wait to play again next year. GO SLEEPY HOLLOW!!!!
