…and now for sports!
Sleepy Hollow’s boys’ varsity soccer team lost in the second round of the sectional playoffs on Friday, October 25th, against Tappan Zee High School. It was an away game played in cold and windy conditions and the final score was 2-1. This was a good performance by the boys. Sleepy played one of its best all-round games of the season. Both teams played tough and aggressive throughout the game. In the first half both teams had scoring chances but could not finish. In the second half Tappan Zee scored its first goal off a corner kick. It was a perfectly executed header that just eluded senior goalkeeper Jack Corcoran. Tappan Zee then scored their second goal off an excellent volley that Corcoran could also not get to. Sleepy responded with a goal of their own as freshman midfielder Manuel Crespo scored with a shot inside Tappan Zee’s 18. Sleepy continued to push forward but couldn’t tie it up. Players who stood out for Sleepy include: senior Demetri Boumis; junior fullback, and co-captain, Daniel Yawman; senior fullback Owen Gomory; junior midfielder, Guillermo Maxi, junior midfielder Danny Elia, and junior striker Estaban Tarcan. Senior goalkeeper Jack Corcoran had another great game. He improved throughout the year and made tremendous contributions to Sleepy’s season. Hollow finished up with a 9-8-1 record. We had a great season and the school district should be proud of the way the boys represented the school district on the field. Both the boys and the coaching staff can’t wait to play again next year. GO SLEEPY HOLLOW!!!!
