And now for Sports…
The Girls Varsity Soccer team won their 4th game in a row yesterday, away against Portchester. An early goal by Emma Cusanelli, assisted by Callie Derechin, gave the horsemen ladies a 1-0 lead. The horsemen dominated play for most of the first half. Solid play by defenders, Juliette Phillips, Hannah Derechin, Molly Greenholz, and Natalie Smith, held Portchester to only 2 shots on goal. The half ended 1-1, when Portchester was awarded a penalty kick for an inadvertent handball, just before half. Our girls rallied back in the second half and pinned the opponents way back in their defensive half early. A pass from Emma Cusanelli out of the midfield area found Emily Rodriguez, who snuck past the goalkeeper to net the game winner. Lavese Gilchrest recorded 6 saves and controlled the penalty area all game long. Come support the girls today at Beacon HS at 4:45, as they go for their 5th straight win to start the 2016 season.
The Boys Varsity soccer team lost its first game of the year against Nyack High School on Saturday, September 10th. The final score was 2-0. The first goal was scored on a major defensive lapse during a throw in inside Hollow’s own 18 yard box. The second goal was scored by Nyack on penalty kick that was an extremely questionable call. The boys had moments where they attacked and pressured well but could not finish the opportunities presented to them. Senior goalkeeper Andrew Laub had a good game in goal with 6 saves and could not be blamed or held responsible for any of the goals. Some players who stood out for Hollow were senior fullback and Captain Ethan Wilens, and midfielders Junior Hugo Carpio and senior Anthony Auguirre. The next game for the boys is an away game against Ardsley High School on Tuesday, September 13th. The boy’s current record is 2-1-1. Go Hollow!!
