...and now a summary on sports…
We are undefeated! The girls swim team finished the dual meet season with a huge splash yesterday with a win against Lakeland 90/ 60. We were undefeated this season and are heading to sectionals with captains Demi McClung and Sofia Guarnieri leading the way. Swimmers Emma Guarnieri, Hannah Miller, Nicole Kopasz and new diver Jesse Cowles will be adding to the depth of our divisional team.
The JV football team will have a home game vs. Eastchester on Saturday at 9:30am.
The Boys Varsity soccer team drew with local rival Irvington High School on Thursday, October 13th. The final score was 0-0 after a tense double overtime in the dark. The boys had moments where they attacked and pressured well but could not finish the opportunities presented to them. Senior goalkeeper Andrew Laub had a good game in goal with 6 saves recording his 6th shutout of the season. Some players who stood out for Hollow were senior captains Diego Arias and Ethan Wilens. The next game for the boys is an away game against league rival Beacon High School on Friday, October 14th. The boy’s current record is 5-5-4. Go Hollow!!
On Thursday, October 13th the Girls Varsity Soccer team beat Peekskill at home by a score of 4-0. The girls played an incredible game, controlling posession and moving the ball around the field in style. Peekskill was outclassed and could hardly manage to complete two passes in a row. Grace Hille recorded only 4 saves all game and only one came from inside the 18yd box. Goals were scored by Taylor Burnett, Emily Rodriguez, LaVese Gilchrest, and Eliza Sandler. Special note to LaVese Gilchrest for her upper 90 goal from about 30 yards out that beat a skilled goalkeeper in net for Peekskill. The middle of the field was dominated all game by Maggie Cusanelli, Raisa Alejandro, and Maya Carvahlo-Evans. The combination play between Emma Cusanelli, Emily Rodriguez and the wide midfielders for the horsemen ladies resulted in Emma Cusanelli's three assists and played a part in all four goals for the team. Julia Friedman, Samantha Allen, and Emma Sylves-Berry all had outstanding games on the outside of the pitch and Julia's skillfull cross from the touch line late in the game lead to Eliza Sandler's first touch finish to seal the win for the girls. The teams record improves to 8-2-2 with three games left to play. Be sure to come watch the girls play Monday Oct. 24th and Tuesday October 25th as they take on Irvington and Lourdes in back to back home games to end their season. The team travels to Hen Hud tomorrow where they will be looking to get the W after tieing Hen Hud 1-1 in a game that saw 4 posts hit by the horsemen and a late goal called back in OT. Thanks to all our JV girls for volunteering at the game yesterday and to all those who came out to support us.
